Trooper who was shot while on duty out of ICU

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper who was shot while responding to a crash in early April continues to recover, according to a DPS social media post.

Trooper Moises Sanchez was moved out of the intensive care unit last Tuesday and into a rehabilitation facility at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, his wife Yvonne Sanchez said via DPS’s social media post last week.

“He will undergo at least 3 hours of rehab each day before returning to the Neuro ICU for a surgery in the coming weeks,” the post read.

Sanchez’s wife once again thanked the community for its support.

“Moses continues to show gradual improvement, and we are praying for additional progress and improvement of his condition,” she said. “I am sincerely appreciative to everyone for your compassion, encouragement and unwavering support.”

Sanchez was shot April 6 in Edinburg while responding to a car crash. The alleged shooter, 24-year-old Victor Alejandro Godinez, fled the scene and sparked a massive manhunt that ended with his capture a few hours later. He has since been charged with three counts of attempted capital murder of a peace officer and remains at the Hidalgo County jail.
