ONLINE EXCLUSIVE: Figueroa stay unbeaten with TKO win in main event of Pharr card

PHARR — Weslaco lightweight Omar "Panterita" Figueroa remained undefeated with a third-round technical knockout of Jorge de Leon of Reynosa in the main event of Thursday's PLOMO Boxing show at Pharr International Convention Center.

Figueroa (6-0, six knockouts) fought in the main event for the first time and didn't disappoint his fans. After a relatively uneventful first round, Figueroa picked up the pace with each ensuing round, and unleashed a series of punches to the body and head in the third that prompted referee David Avalos to step in and end the match at the 1:36 mark.

In the semi-main event, Rolando Contreras (3-2-1) of Reynosa stopped Gerardo Alvarado of Pharr on a TKO at the 1:31 mark of the third round. Also on the card, Antonio Gamez was a four-round unanimous decision winner (39-35, 39-35, 39-35) over Eric Castillo.

In a pair of three-round exhibition fights to open the card, Ronald Rubaldiño fought Juan Lucio and Gabriel Rangel boxed Samuel Gutierrez.
