Budweiser Boxing Series
MCALLEN - The Mid Valley's finest boxers invade the Harley Davidson shop in McAllen on Saturday night as part of the Budweiser Boxing Series.
Anthony Cavazos, president of Cavazos Boxing, said that four of the fighters are from Weslaco and should put on quite a show.
"I feel that we have the toughest fighters that the mid valley has to offer fighting on this card Saturday night," said Cavazos. "All four of them are tough as nails and are exciting to watch in the ring. The fans on Saturday night will get a treat."
Weslaco's Eric Molina (5-1, 5 KO's) will fight in the main event against Louisiana's Anthony Greeley (7-27-3) in a six-round cruiserweight fight. Molina, who is becoming a fan favorite in the valley, is coming off a huge second round knockout victory over San Antonio's Isaac Ruiz on March 28 in Harlingen.
"Eric (Molina) absolutely demolished his opponent in March and dropped him like a pile of bricks three times," said Cavazos. "He is becoming quite a popular guy in the valley and has a huge following. He is type of person that comes to fight and is a monster in the ring."
The co-main event features Weslaco's Omar Molano (5-1, 5 KO's) against San Antonio's Gilbert Elizondo (4-1, 2 KO's).
"This is going to be a great fight," said Cavazos. "Both fighters' records are very close and come to fight. I have to say that this is going to be Omar's toughest test to date. But, he has been training very hard and is ready for war."
In other action, Weslaco's Manuel Lopez (3-2, 3 KO's) makes his much anticipated return to the ring after a two year hiatus and will face San Antonio's Joseph Rios (3-2, 1 KO)
Weslaco native Omar Figueroa Jr. makes his pro debut as he will face Brownsville's Edwin Espinoza (0-1). McAllen's Maria Salinas will also make her pro debut Saturday night as she will face San Antonio's Stephanie Gonzales, who is also making her pro debut.
The opening bout of the night features San Antonio natives Ramiro Torres (3-11-1) against Jesse Ortiz (3-8-2).
"These fights are all going to be wars in the ring," said Cavazos. "All of these match-ups are very even and should be very exciting."
