Voters approve $25 million bond for WISD

Cardenas, Everitt win school board seats

WESLACO - Two chairs on the board and a $25 million bond highlighted the 2008 school district ballot Saturday.

Bucky Cardenas and Jeff Everitt emerged as winners in Places 6 and 7, respectively. Cardenas defeated Olga Noriega 2,237 to 1,544 for Place 6, while Everitt topped Miguel Wise 2,189 to 1,573 in Place 7.

Cardenas and Noriega were neck and neck in all polling places, but Cardenas garnered nearly twice as many votes as Noriega at the polling location at F.D. Roosevelt Elementary School, earning 94 votes compared to Noriega's 56.

Cardenas also got a huge edge in the absentee ballots, receiving 1,564 votes compared to Noriega's 883.

The situation was much the same for Everitt who received 90 votes at Roosevelt, compared to Wise's 63, in addition to 1,481 absentee votes to Wise's 941.

The community also voted to approve a $25 million school bond, as 2,063 voted for and 1,360 against.

In an interview with the Mid-Valley Town Crier in March, Weslaco Superintendent Richard Rivera said if the bond was approved, it would help fund renovations to Cuellar Middle School and Sam Houston Intermediate School.

Those two fools got elected because of me

1996 Panther what difference does it make on my inability to form a coherent sentence, egregious misspellings, and fundamentally flawed sentence structure, I am sure that you got the picture. If not, grow up

So will this bond pay for new furniture and paintings for Sam Houston Elementary to match the ones recently added to Memorial Elementary. Oh wait, those were donated from Oliveira herself after they were donated to her from us, the taxpayers.

You are absolutely right Concern Citizen, this race had nothing to do with the candidates. No one in the history of Weslaco School Board Elections has ever received as many early walk in votes as Cardenas and Everitt did. Can you imagine not even Dr. Sepulveda’s 1183 walk in votes in the 2007 election came close to Bucky’s 1564 walk in votes and Jeff’s 1481 walk in votes. I am not talking about mail in votes because on 160 mail in votes were brought in for all 4 candidates verses 384 mail in votes for Dr. Sepulveda. Now tell me what is wrong with this picture? Concern Citizen is right, all this boils down to Supt and Oliveira saving their you know what. The community needs to get together and help stop the Supt and Oliveira for no one should have to work under these conditions. They have already created enough destruction as it is. If they are not stopped they will continue harassing and intimidating employees. If we allow Supt and Oliveira to get away with this unethical behavior as campaigning during school hours, we might as well not have elections anymore because they will now decide who holds office.

Ha, what does spelling have to do with anything, Concern citizen is right, Supt and Oliveira have to be stopped. They have created enough distruction as it is. If they are not stopped they will continue harassing and intimidating employees. No one should have to work under these conditions.

This race was not about the candidates, it was about Richard Rivera and Oliveira campaigning for the two candiates who promised to fully support their unethical actions. As admitted by Richard Rivera, I am campaigning for the two candidates that will make sure that I will not lose my job, so if it is Cardenas and Everitt, than those are who I am campaigning for. If Rivera and Oliveira have nothing to fear or hide, than why did they spent taxpayers monies campaigning for these two candiates during school hours, the early voting number proof it all. Wake up Weslaco, do not allow the Superintendent to get away with this. Please come forward if you were approached by the superintendent or principal during school hours to supoort this two candidates.
