City of Weslaco to celebrate Independence Day
WESLACO — The City of Weslaco and the Weslaco Parks & Recreation Board is ready to host a possible record-setting Fourth of July festival on Saturday at the Isaac Rodriguez Park located on 1200 E. 6th Street.
The event is headed for its fifth year and being that it lands on a Saturday, Weslaco Parks & Recreation Director Pete Garcia is hoping it can draw at least 5,000 should the weather cooperate. With the help of KGBT and that fact it's a weekend event, drawing 5,000 could be a good possibility.
"If more that would be awesome," Garcia said. "Why travel or go anywhere else if you could go in your own backyard."
There will be free swimming, free water slides for the kids, free music consisting of live bands and D.J. which is free admission and parking for the public. Food vendors and refreshments for sale will be available for the public. Garcia said a total of five live bands are scheduled to play. A special Fourth of July fireworks display is set for 9 p.m. with the event itself starting at noon. A flag raising and opening event is slated for 11 a.m. Garcia said the city and board have done more this year than in the years past.
